About US$6.3 billion stolen from Binance's hot wallets (global exchange; still developing)
Starting at about 8:05 pm UTC on 29 October 2026, attackers drained Binance hot wallets across about ten blockchains; TRM Labs says most of it went in about 20 minutes, with more taken later that night. Binance first pointed to a compromised engineer's laptop, then said it had found additional points of breach, and that it had found no leak of wallet private keys. Blockchain analysts TRM Labs and Chainalysis assess that North Korea's TraderTraitor group was responsible.
Outcome: Binance says user funds are safe and that it will cover all losses from its SAFU emergency fund and company money, and it reported setting aside US$6.34 billion. Binance said about US$3 billion had been frozen on-chain; TRM Labs counted about US$2.7 billion. Withdrawals were still paused on 30 October and expected back within about two days. No report says whether Binance Australia customers were affected. We'll update this as it develops.
